You are invited to Henley-in-Arden

Do you want to eat or have a drink at a 16th century coaching inn or in a 15th century  timber framed building? Then, come to Henley-in-Arden!

Would you like to walk in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside where a 12th century motte and bailey castle used to be? Then Henley is the place for you.

How about walking the one mile picturesque High Street where you will find shops,  antiques, restaurants, wine bars, pubs, coffee bars and all the time be
surrounded by buildings covering every period in history going back to medieval
times? There you will also find the famous Henley Ice Cream Parlour and our
Heritage Centre, the 15th century Market Cross and the 1448 St. John the Baptist Church. A few minutes walk away into adjoining Beaudesert Parish you can visit the 1170 St. Nicholas Church.

Or you may wish to stay at one of our local hotels and to experience the nearby
Stratford-on-Avon theatre or Warwick Castle.

Or you may wish to do business in Birmingham, Coventry or visit the National Exhibition Centre.

Of course you may wish just to relax and read a book or use our Golf Club or
play tennis. Everything is possible in Henley-in-Arden.

You will find us on the A3400 in Warwickshire 8 miles north of Stratford-upon-Avon,
William Shakespeare's birthplace. The Henley-in-Arden railway station provides
links to Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon. The M42 and M40 motorways are only minutes away.

Looking forward to meeting you in Henley-in-Arden where medieval history and architecture live together in the 21st century.

Where to Stay

Henley Hotel

Best Western Henley Hotel held an open evening and showed its newly refurbished and redesigned rooms to the public. What we saw was indeed impressive. As the Chairman of the Business and Employment Committee of the Parish Council I was delighted. Henley has now excellent hotel accommodation for tourism and business visitors. Henley and Wootton Wawen offer history, sport facilities and a beautiful countryside. At the same time we are situated a mere 8 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon Shakespeare’s birthplace and the Shakespeare theatre. We are close to the M42 and M40 motorways and have easy access to National Exhibition Centre, England’s second City Birmingham and its international airport. Equally we are situated close to Coventry and its airport and the Cotswolds with its beautiful English Villages with one of the finest countrysides in England. Furthermore, we are only just 1 hour by car away from Oxford and about 3 hours from London.

The 8 room hotel upstairs has been completely refurbished to a luxurious standard mixing a combination of modern comforts and charming character.

All rooms include Freeview TV and Wi-Fi.

There are facilities for:

  • Private Function Rooms
  • Birthday Parties
  • Anniversaries
  • Weddings

The main bar provides its own menu as well as a wide selection of cask ales and wines.

The White Swan inn dates back to 1352 and was first documented in 1358. The current building was erected sometime in 1550 and quite possibly William Shakespeare may have visited the inn.

The poet William Shenstone (1714-1763) stayed at the White Swan and was inspired to write ‘…hoever has travelled life’s dull round, wherever his stages may have been, may sigh to think he still has found, the warmest welcome at an inn’.

Samuel Johnson in 1776 spent some time at the hotel writing versions of his English dictionary. (source: Graham Young). As a result of this, one of the beautiful suites has been named ‘The Johnson Suite’.
